PSYCHE Ritual Massage Oil is inspired by one of the greatest love stories ever told.
You’ve heard of Cupid.
But have you heard of Psyche?
And did you know Cupid’s other name is Eros—the god of erotic love?
The erotic is not just sex.
For women, the erotic is life force. It is creativity, intuition, hunger, pleasure, grief, and devotion braided together. I suspect this is true for men, too (certainly it is for the man in my own story) but many people have never tasted it. Not fully. Not in their bodies. Not in a way that rearranges them.
When I was a young woman, I tasted soul-shaking, body-aching desire in a love too explosive to contain. It left an indelible mark on me, one that colored every romantic partnership and decision for the next twenty years.
That kind of love changes you.
Once you’ve known it, everything else is measured against it.
In that way, I feel deeply kin to Psyche.
In the myth, Psyche is sent into the underworld. She is given impossible tasks. She must endure separation, doubt, loss, and longing. She searches for love not as a girl, but as a woman becoming herself.
It is not love she must find, it is capacity.
So many trials.
So much time.
So much surrender.
Until finally, Psyche emerges changed. Initiated into trust, into patience, into devotion. She becomes the woman who can hold such a love without losing herself inside it.
To trust.
To unfold.
To surrender.
To allow the mystery.
This story lives deep in my bones.
PSYCHE carries that story in scent.
Velvety rose, heart-opening and lush.
Deep, rooted vetiver, grounding and animal.
Bright citrus at first touch, like a spark on bare skin.
A trace of smoke, low and lingering.
And sweet balsam, warm as breath.
It is a fragrance that unfolds slowly, one that stays.
It is the kind of love that shatters illusion.
The kind that makes all others shrink in comparison.
The kind that leaves a residue you do not wash away.
As Kahlil Gibran wrote:
When love beckons you, follow him.
When his wings enfold you, yield to him…
For even as love crowns you, so shall he crucify you—
that you may know the secrets of your heart,
and in that knowledge become a fragment of Life’s heart.
For love is sufficient unto love.
And after all these years of wandering, I know this much to be true:
If not that kind of love,
then nothing.
PSYCHE was made slowly. Intentionally. As an offering to desire that endures, to touch turned ritual, to sensuality honored rather than rushed.
We’re releasing it just in time for Valentine’s Day
And don’t think for a moment many of us won’t be using it on a very hot date with ourselves.
This oil is desire, slowed down.
This oil is remembrance.
This oil is sensuality, bottled.
With love,
Bee
